Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) allow access and interaction between people and database all over the world. CMC have change the understanding and perceptive of our human communication. In cyberspace, we adopt a totally new identity as no one knows we are which allow us to create a character we wish we could be.
MSN, facebook, friendster, myspace have now been a very popular platform for people from all over the world to come together and get to know each other. And it is now one of the most popular site one visit. Dates and outing is then form by the group of community who talk to each other often. But this can be a very dangerous act.
Cases of rapes and cheats have been heard around the world due to meeting up with the so call 'friends' online. I remember coming across an article in the Chinese news paper a few years ago. A man in china met 4 of his so call online 'buddy' out for a drink, and he was actually gang rape by the other 4. Pls there is no typo error there, he was really rape by the rest of the guys. He felt so betrayed by their action and wanted revenge. So he called them out one fine day and get the all four drunk, then he proceed to cutting off their 'male pride'... ouch...
He was caught later on by the police and which he then confess that he was actually rape. This shows that not only females are vulnerable as this not only happen on the female. A saying of 'do not judge a book by its cover' is very well said here. We can never know what a person think and the motive behind one's action. No one can escape when he/she is out numbered and in a well plan scam act.
There are rare cases that people that are being so obese with a person online that they will keep talking to their peer all day about this particular person and they will be mentally reliable on this internet friend. Treating him/her as her girlfriend/boyfriend when the person have no intention of doing back the same. Some may be so heartbroken and commit suicide due to the online 'partner' found a girlfriend/boyfriend.
This is not healthy at all. One should not take online dating/chatting so serious that it may change the your own personal life. It is best to leave what ever in the virtual world online. Never let it influence our life. As most of the time there is no honesty on the net.We reveal our pros hind our cons. When one cannot hide, they will just lie their way through... hoping people will take their lie into the profile.

HAHAHAH! i love this post! yes, the vulnerabilities as to what the internet can pose is not restricted to the girls only. the article you mentioned is a very good example that whatever is being said on the internet might not be the whole truth. this leads to alot of misunderstandings. indeed, the internet is a great source of informtion. however, misuse of it for crimes or 'stalkish' behaviour is dangerous.
ReplyDeleteHaha, so funny. I now know guys do get rape too. Anyway, I agree with what you say about "We can never know what a person think and the motive behind one's action."
ReplyDeleteI think meeting online can be dangerous. =)
WoOoOoOo,,,,, I like your pictures,,,, hahaha,,, so funny......
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that honesty is really vague during online chatting.... :D
I will like to talk about online dating/relationship. Personally i feel that knowng peope from online is alright as it widens your social circle. But if the friendshp will to improve into a BGR type, one must always meet up real life and get to know one another better.
ReplyDeleteif the relationship is aiming for a further development, how can one proceed without even knowing how the partner looks like.
Cheers
Lol always remember, cyberspace is never safe
ReplyDeleteThink Edison Chen sex scandal
the internet is an open area free for all, all types of ppl whether u wanna meet or not gather there.
ReplyDeleteno one can protect u other then urself, thats how unsafe the online world is haha
what you have wrote is true. Basically now in the cybernet is extremely dangerous to all ages of both man and women.By highlighting this issue, i believe most of us had heard and even seen how dangerous and how scarly cyber world is getting on as the technology advance.
ReplyDeleteya. totally agreed with this article.
ReplyDeleterelationship online is as strong as my internet connection (which dc every now and then).
haha. so be careful who you meet online, esp girls. i'm sure guys wont be so unlucky depite the news. haha.
I do agree with the points highlighted in this article. The internet is faceless and unsafe, you will never know who's the person hiding behind the screen. Please do not take the internet as serious business.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should use caution when conversing with people online and should always meetup in groups when meeting new friends.
The usage of the pictures also illustrates the points. Good job in finding them.
While I agree that, the internet is like a virtual jungle, it doesn't mean that, it's all that rotten. There are people out there, whom you may have met online, who would and possibly be a great friend. Personally, don't downplay the virtues of any online relationships. =)
ReplyDeleteBeing an social introverted person like me, I do not have much friends, I do admit that i have a Friendster account, but I do only add the people that I knew. Personally I feel that being on the cyberspace allows me to more freely speak to people, rather than talking face to face, as I do not talk much even if I am with close friends. In the above post, I do agree that we should not take what happen on the internet seriously. I agree with the last picture, you might never know who is on the other side of the screen.
ReplyDeleteback in irc days there's already lots of such cases. guess when meeting or knowing new friends online everyone have to exercise some kind of restraint and be cautious about what others are telling you.
ReplyDeleteand i like the first picture. lol!
i add people in my facebook when i don't know them personally. met them thru the applications but i don't meet them in real life or have any $$ transactions with them so i guess its ok?
ReplyDeletepoints in the article are valid. school and parents should do something about this mann. not just the usual talks kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteHAHA frankly speaking who's honest on the WWW. everyone's out to paint a perfect picture of themselves. despite the imperfections that is so obvious. :S
ReplyDeleteKim.
pros and cons i have to say.
ReplyDeleteusually its those who are really lonely and have a "smaller" social circle to resort to these means to get friends.
it may be addictive.
but it MIGHT and MIGHT not pose any harm to different approaches.
for me,i used to be online like 24/7 all the time.
be it playing games, chatting with web-friends over the forums or online games.
then it went on to "real-life" meetups.
its gd to meet and make new friends.
but how many "GOOD FRIENDS" are there among those ppl u meet?
its still kinda random i guess.
if u cant take the risk?don't do it. (:
I think kim there have a point of painting oneself to be perfect... i mean who do not wish that they lead a perfect life with perfect looks getting perfect grades... i think this might be the start to not being honest in the virtual world...
ReplyDeleteon the other hand, louqi have a very interesting view, which is somehow true as well...
Although internet is everyones life but it does have its disadvantages.Cyber crimes are increasing drastically over these years.Due to anonymity, it is possible for anyone to fake their identities easily.Hence one should be very careful while disclosing personal particulars about oneself.I personally am very careful and interact with people whom I know.
