With the introduce of technology, media influence and been growing more and more powerful. Debates on 'is media influence good or are they bad' have also been a topic? But some people could care less as they are obtrusive to them. As much as it is seen to be, media can sometimes be bias to a certain group of people. Singing words of praises as they are directly or indirectly benefiting from them.
Lets start from the positive media influence. Media helps you get in contact with the people and things you can never get in contact with. Example is a interview of a political or successful person. The other point is never brings in new knowledge for us. Documentary provides us with fascinating information and wonderful knowledge about nature, animals, technology and more. Media is very often use to promote campaign like ' Global Tree Campaign' , 'Save the World Campaign' and also political campaign. This is a very positive influence as it is trying to tell you necessary information that is leading to the survivor of human race.
Next, lets talk about negative media influence. Many studies have shown that when a violent program is being broadcast, and young children watched them, they have a very high tendency of imitating what is shown on the television. Commercial of newly launch product have also capture the eye balls of youngster. Branded goods like LV, Channel, Anna Sui, Gucci etc have been package and mold into a must have item for those who are 'in style'. Example, in Japan, it is a must for all young school girls to own a branded bag, clothes etc. When they have not enough money for their luxury items, they turn into becoming prostitute.
This is their easy way of earning money. Selling themselves to men, they quickly earn themselves quick money which it's use to buy luxury items. And many students will not denied the fact they hope to 'earn' money this way as its the fastest.
In my own perception, i feel that media have more negative influence to people then positive. Some may agree to what i say some may not. It is all about ones interpretation about media influence. What is your point of view? Is media a good influence or are they bad?

Yes it is true that media really influence of life a lot. Just look at what we wear... i am sure it is being influence by the media...
ReplyDeleteI think that media do have both negative and positive effect on people.
ReplyDeleteFor negative is that, I really agree with you that children like to imitate what they see so they might just learn bad things from the media unknowingly. On the other hand, the media is also able to spread positive message to people, take for example, anti drug campaign, they give us the positive message of how drug can affect us and from this, advice us to refrain from drugs =)
in our contemporary society, the media is powerful and influential. i am sure this fact cannot be denied. lets take TV commercials as an example. Will you want to purchase a more popular (more ad) product than one which is not?
ReplyDeletethe world it is today takes what the media says as total truth.
ReplyDeleteThe root has already been planted deep. its hard to change the way it has already become
Whether media influence is positive or negative, it is still up to the audience. The mean aim for advertising for the branded goods is to make it more known to people, get customers, sell their goods, make profit. I don't think they meant for the young girls to do these things to themselves.
ReplyDeleteAs for why more and more young girls are carrying luxurious goods, I believe is because of envy and jealousy, they see the other girl carry this item, they want it themselves. After sometime, that envy and jealousy becomes a "monkey see monkey do" trend. It become a "you have it, I must have it" mindset.
I am neutral for media influence.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, it is a good thing as it broaden people perspectives. They will learn more about other cultural and experiencing 2nd-handed on the lives of others in the world. They will want to experience it for themselves.
On the other hand, due to many tv shows that some children have watched since young, they adopt too much of the influence. For example the sex, a lot of western markets are using it to sell their products. Thus now quite a few teenagers are too relaxed about this subject and never think of the consequences.
But it's not all media's fault though as family and other values do play a part in it.
bah... media.
ReplyDeleteits a very powerful object.
falls into the wrong hand...?it spells disaster already.
media influences everyone strongly.
tv,internet,magazine,newspaper, etc etc.
who doenst read or watch any of those?
if u don't,u'r a liar!!!
becus u'r reading my comment via internet!!
so yeah,ad's or tv shows showing all these branded goods are useful in creating sales.
but there are LOTS of materialistic girls who will do anything just to get their hands on branded stuffs they see on TV's and ad's.
its self control actually.
if u cant afford it,don't get it!
don't have to feel loserish just becus u don't own any of those?
its just stupid ppl who cant differentiate their needs and wants.
any ppl who fall into this category?
i'm not~ :P
think u can't justify the effect of media this way because i feel that at tne end of the day, media is just a source of information whereby the ultimate decision maker of how good or bad is decided by the one who receives this information -- you.
ReplyDeleteexample: recently there was a news report on this austria father who kept his daughter for 24 years i think and raping the girl more than 3000 times.
good influence: use this as an opportunity to highlight on human rights and compassion.
bad influence: use it as a reference (like how some murderers who copied their method of crime from other infamous criminals.
woo raping more then 3000 times is really serious... this is really bad...
ReplyDeletei kinda agree on the bad influence part on use as reference. criminal will think of a way to perfect their crime using previous ones as a base. Giving them more time to perfect their plans as they have a 'blueprint'
